National Homelessness Week 3-9 August 2026

Homelessness Week is a national awareness campaign that shines a light on the experiences of people facing homelessness and housing insecurity, while encouraging communities, organisations and governments to take action.

In Western Sydney, the challenges of rising housing costs, rental stress and cost-of-living pressures continue to impact more people than ever before. At Parramatta Mission, we see these challenges every day through our homelessness, housing and community support services.

Throughout Homelessness Week, Parramatta Mission will bring together supporters, volunteers, community partners, local businesses, congregations, and the wider community to raise awareness, create practical support and demonstrate that everyone can play a role in addressing homelessness.

Key Events

Sunday 2 August - Launch Event & Bikers Blanket Run
Homelessness week begins with the annual Bikers Blanket Run, where riders travel from Penrith to Parramatta collecting blankets for people experiencing homelessness. The community event features a BBQ, live music and guest speakers in Centenary Square, with blankets donated to Parramatta Mission.

Wednesday 5 August – Community Hub Day
Our Community Hub day brings together a variety of service providers offering health checks, housing and homelessness support, mental health services, legal and financial advice and more. Guests will also enjoy a barbecue, entertainment, clothing and essential items while connecting with services that can help improve their wellbeing and stability.

Thursday 6 August – Remembrance Service
Our annual memorial service provides an opportunity to remember and honour members of our community who have passed away while experiencing homelessness or disadvantage. Through reflection, candle lighting and shared stories, we acknowledge every life with dignity and respect.

One heart for the West - how you can get involved

Donate an essential in-kind item

We are inviting individuals, workplaces, schools and community groups to support Homelessness Week by donating one essential item for people accessing our homelessness and community services. While a single item may seem small, together these contributions provide practical assistance, comfort and self-worth to people experiencing hardship across Western Sydney. See full list of items here.

We welcome donations of:

  • Non-perishable food: long-life milk, tea, coffee, breakfast cereal, rice, pasta, tinned meals and snacks
  • Personal care items: shampoo, conditioner, soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, razors and feminine hygiene products

Consider workplace giving

Workplace giving is a simple and effective way to provide ongoing support to Parramatta Mission through regular pre-tax payroll donations.

By contributing a small amount from each pay, employees can help provide meals, support services and pathways out of homelessness for people across Western Sydney.

Already use a workplace giving platform (such as Good2Give or Benevity)? Simply search for Parramatta Mission and add us as your nominated charity.

Get your workplace involved

Homelessness Week is a great opportunity for businesses and teams to make a collective impact.

Your workplace can:

  • Run an Essential Item Drive
  • Promote workplace giving
  • Help raise awareness of homelessness in Western Sydney
